#UCLPub2016 – Introduction to Publishing Jobs [Book Master Training]

On the second day (28/9/16) of my VERY first week of my Publishing post-graduate course, there was an event held byย The Publishers Associationย and UCL. It was open to people in the industry and those who are curious – or students!

I took a lot of notes so I thought I’d type them up along with the details of the speakers from that evening. Not sure if these notes will be of any use to anyone, but here you go!

Shanah Tovah Dudes!! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ [Literary Lists]

That means ‘Happy New Year’ in Hebrew…. BECAUSE IT’S THE JEWISH NEW YEAR!!! Also known asย Rosh Hashanah.

I’m in the midst of my intensive second week of my Publishing MA here at UCL in London, but I thought I’d compile a ‘listicle’ of some Jewish themed or centric books in honour of the new year.

Comics 09/2016 [Crowdfund THIS]

I want to try something new here. Crowdfunding through Kickstarter and the like is a really cool way to get book or comic anthologies published, as well as single books either by indie authors or indie publishers!

So I’ve decided that with this new lil’ category that I’d feature a few cool projects that are currently running, and even a few that are independently sold on websites like Gumroad with every post.

THIS POST has comic projects on Kickstarter that are still running and needย yourย help!!!

Monthly Roundup โ†ช Aug๐Ÿ’‚๐Ÿ’ท

Oh August. What a weird month you’ve been.

I landed in the UK on the 3rd and then got sick like a day later from ye olde Travellers Flu/Cold. Which then lasted something around 2 weeks. But I powered through that and even went to the Nine Worlds convention, in which I also was part of a Star Trek roundtable!!!

And when I FINALLY RECOVERED, I spent the weekend up in Edinburgh visiting some friends!ย Which was of course super gr8, but as soon as I got back to England I got sick. AGAIN. And that has taken me about a week to recover from. Which of course was SUPER.

Did I mention I also got my phone stolen OUT OF MY HAND within the first week of being back in the UK?ย Thanks August. That was… Interesting.

5 GBBO Fiction Fixes [Literary Lists]

Tonight I watched the second episode of the latest season of the Great British Bake Off. Which I’m sure everyone knows is the most stressful and adrenaline pumping baking show in the history of theย world.

So in honour of this new season, I thought I’d compile a list of books – and a few comics! – that will surely curb your cravings for GBBO in-between episodes.

Return to Labyrinth Manga : AKA I Hate Myself [Picture Break]

If you know me well enough you’ll know that my love for David Bowie runsย incrediblyย deep. And in high school, a few of my friends and I got SUPER obsessed with the film, ‘The Labyrinth‘. Starring none other than Bowie himself.

For the uninitiated, the film is from the 80s and is about a girl called Sarah who ends up wishing her baby brother away to the goblin king, Jareth, and realises she wants him back. To do so she has to get through the goblin kingdom in time and in the process learns about herself and makes friends with all sorts of creatures. These creatures are lovable and beautiful creations by Jim Henson and Brian Froud.

In 2006, Tokyopop published a manga series that was meant to be a sequel to the film in which the baby brother of Sarah, Toby, is now a teenager and ends up returning to the Labyrinth??? Honestly I’m not that sure what it is about because I know it isย terrible.

Monthly Roundup โ†ช July๐Ÿ‘Œ

So this is late and I know that. BUT I HAVE SOME VERY GOOD EXCUSES!!!

  1. I was packing a lot and doing last minute things because my flight to the UK was first on the 31st of July and then moved to the 3rd of August.
  2. I got sick almost as soon as I landed in London.
  3. My phone got stolen on like my 6th day in the city while I was looking at flats.
  4. Now it’s the 2nd week of August and I went to the Nine Worlds convention.
