Creatures of the Night for Hungry Ghost Month [Book Tag]

I found this book tag sitting in my drafts, so I’ve decided to fill it out! Especially since Hungry Ghost Month is coming up soon… πŸ‘ΉπŸ‘»πŸ‘Ί

Book tag-list things are always fun and sometimes make me realise that I’ve been missing out on certain genres, or themes in my reading!!!

Monthly Roundup β†ͺ Nov😴

I HAVE READ SO LITTLE THIS MONTH. WOW. SURPRISE SURPRISE… To be fair on myself, this month has been incredibly busy – I’ve been travelling out of town on the weekends to see friends, going to concerts, finishing assignments, classes have been long, I’ve been tired, etc etc.

LYF IS TUFF.

MONSTERS
by Emerald FennellΒ πŸŒŠπŸ’€πŸ–

I had a ‘Talented Mr Ripley’ moment with this book. That means I did not expect it to get as disturbing and creepy as it did. I don’t wanna say anymore at risk of giving anything away. I gave it 3 out of 5 not because I didn’t enjoy it that much, but mostly because it weirded me out so much….!!! I’m not really into these kinds of creepy books. ANYWAY, if you enjoy reading about disturbing murders and creepy small towns, this is for you.

AND I DARKEN
[THE CONQUERERS SAGA #1]
by Kiersten WhiteΒ βš”β˜ͺ🏰

So this book was a lot of fun!!! Long story short: if Vlad the Impaler was actually a girl and this is her ‘origin’ story of sorts. The book blurb basically explains it all so I’m not gonna repeat what’s there already, but what I WILL say is that it is a very fun and addicting read, especially if you love historical fiction. But maybe don’t expect it to be entirely accurate. I mean, it IS an alternate history novel, and also it’s complete fiction but “inspired” by real history. I initially picked it up because anything related to Vlad the Impaler and the ‘myth of Dracula’ or rather the Dracul’s of Romania, is right up my alley. Well enough that I’ll take a look at it. I didn’t know this was going to be a series when I picked it up and on finishing it I don’t think I’ll read the rest. I’m content with what I got from this one and I’m not invested enough in the characters to want to read more.

Monthly Roundup β†ͺ June🌀

This month I decided to change things around a bit and focus a bit more on reading graphic novels and comics that I’ve had piling up for AGES, but never got around to reading.Β Some of which were ‘given’ to me by Net Galley in return for a review. Which is always a fun surprise, seeing as I usually haven’t heard of them!

IT’S HANUKKAH TIME Y’ALL [Book Tag]

So I live in Singapore. Which is in Asia. Which does not have a lot of Jews. And most certainly not enough to warrant decorations all over the city-state to celebrate Hanukkah.

Which blows because as a kid I wished that justΒ one placeΒ would have Hanukkah decorations. Hell, even some blue and gold lights somewhere would have been nice! BUT NO. It was all red and green and Santa this, reindeer that. Not even a few electric candles with blue fairy lights near or around them. πŸ˜’

THIS GOES OUT TO ALL MY FELLOW YIDS WHO RESENT BEING LEFT OUT IN THE SEASONAL MONTH OF DECEMBER.

The stories in this collection merge technological wonder with the everyday. Children upgrade their fighting spiders with armor, and toymakers create punchcard-driven marionettes. Large fish lumber across the skies, while boat people find a new home on the edge of a different dimension. Technology and tradition meld as the people adapt to the changing forces of their world. The Sea Is Ours is an exciting new anthology that features stories infused with the spirits of Southeast Asia’s diverse peoples, legends, and geography.Β
