Shanah Tovah Dudes!! ๐ŸŽ๐Ÿฏ๐Ÿ [Literary Lists]

That means ‘Happy New Year’ in Hebrew…. BECAUSE IT’S THE JEWISH NEW YEAR!!! Also known asย Rosh Hashanah.

I’m in the midst of my intensive second week of my Publishing MA here at UCL in London, but I thought I’d compile a ‘listicle’ of some Jewish themed or centric books in honour of the new year.

Didn’t finish my stack of short books again… But I was reading longer books too so I think that’s a good enough reason!!!!!!!! Maybe March will be the month I finish the stack and finally get to dive headfirst into my Unread section of my home library, as well as local library.

I also thought of doing a mid month book haul post, as I got a bunch of library books as -*well as bought a few second hand ones, but it’s now marchย so… it doesn’t…. feel like… there’s…. much……. point…………

#DiverseDecember: In Which Diversity Is Not A Myth [Literary Lists]

Recently I noticed a hashtag going around twitter, #DiverseDecember. Turns out it’s a celebration of books by Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic writers (aka BAME), for this month!

It even has it’s own twitter account, which you can findย @DiverseDecember!!! The account mainly retweets posts with the hashtag, so it’s worth having a look through if you want some diverse books to add to your to-read list, or ifย you still haven’t bought a Christmas or Hanukkah gift.

The original poster of this post has now deactivated their account, so I can’t credit them for their work.ย ๐Ÿ˜กย I just thought it was such a great master post of diverseย spookiesย and creatures that more people had to know about it!!

Under the Read More, there is aย MASSIVEย list of links showing you the immense diversity that exists for fantasy creatures! From Inuit mythology to Filipinx Ghouls, Persian fairies to Nigerian waterย spirits.

DIVERSITY IS NOT A MYTH FOLKS!

EVEN IN MYTHOLOGY ITSELF!!

GO FORTH AND DIVERSIFY YOUR FANTASIES AND NIGHTMARES!!!

IT’S HANUKKAH TIME Y’ALL [Book Tag]

So I live in Singapore. Which is in Asia. Which does not have a lot of Jews. And most certainly not enough to warrant decorations all over the city-state to celebrate Hanukkah.

Which blows because as a kid I wished that justย one placeย would have Hanukkah decorations. Hell, even some blue and gold lights somewhere would have been nice! BUT NO. It was all red and green and Santa this, reindeer that. Not even a few electric candles with blue fairy lights near or around them. ๐Ÿ˜’

THIS GOES OUT TO ALL MY FELLOW YIDS WHO RESENT BEING LEFT OUT IN THE SEASONAL MONTH OF DECEMBER.

AND WHO DON’T WANT TO ENGAGE IN EVERY SINGLE CHRISTMAS EVENT BECAUSE IT’S NOT EVEN THEIR HOLIDAY.ย

Esther by Rebecca Kanner [Review] UK Release: Dec 28 2015

A glittering Persian king has a vast empire that reaches farther than where the sun meets the horizon. He is bathed in riches and commands a frightening military force. He possesses power beyond any other mortal man and rules his kingdom as a god. Anything he desires, he has…

A Jewish girl is ripped from her hut by the kingโ€™s brutish warriors and forced to march across blistering, scorched earth to the capitol city. Trapped for months in the splendid cage of the kingโ€™s palace, she must avoid the ire of the kingโ€™s concubines and eunuchs all while preparing for her one night with the king. Soon the fated night arrives, and she does everything in her power to captivate the king and become his queen.

But wearing the crown brings with it a new set of dangers. When a ruthless man plies the kingโ€™s ear with whispers of genocide, it is up to the young queen to prevent the extermination of the Jews. She must find the strength within to violate the kingโ€™s law, risk her life, and save her people.

This is a story of finding hidden depths of courage within oneโ€™s self. Of risking it all to stand up for what is right.

This is the story of Queen Esther.
