At the start of March last year, I went for a couple of weeks with my parents to Melbourne and Sydney! We decided to take things easy tourism wise and just play by ear.
Which meant that I ended up dragging my parents to some pretty bookstores and second hand bookstores. And also buying books. Even though my dad shamed me every time, because APPARENTLY, “I wasn’t gonna buy them in the first place but then mum said to go ahead” is not a good enough excuse…
I did not reach as much as I had hope I would, which is very sucky. But! I did get myself into a bit more of a reading swing which is progress as far as I’m concerned. Easing yourself back into enjoying and engaging with a hobby that you love is hard and upsetting because it should be easy, but if it’s been ages, it’s not!! AND IT’S FRUSTRATiNG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been trying to get myself to read more since I actually want to achieve my Goodreads challenge of 50 books (not including graphic novels, comics or re-reads!!) this year.. IT’S HARD. Getting out of a reading slump that is a year long is HARD. 😦
Early December in 2018 Epigram had a REALLY REALLY good sale for Christmas (Hanukkah too IMO) at their HQ office space in Toa Payoh. I decided to kick my hermit ass out of the house one evening to go have a look and see if there was anything I didn’t own yet. Spoiler: there was.
If you were away from the internet recently, let me fill you in. Everyone lost their minds over a semi decent short story in the New Yorker about a 20 something college girl having a questionable but short lived relationship.

Long story short, people got upset, people had opinions, and honestly, there are SO MANY better short stories out there that you can read instead of this one. Here are my recommendations of short story anthologies that you can read instead of bothering with that one. 👍👍👍
I really put the pedal to the metal this month to read as much as POSSIBLE so I could reach my yearly reading goal. I also went to Phuket in Thailand for a week with my parents, where I ATTEMPTED to read more, but ended up doing more lounging around than reading… OOPS.
WELP. I’m back home in Singapore. FOR GOOD THIS TIME. Having a lot of mixed feelings about it but trying to remain positive, and read as much as possible so I can reach my reading goal!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111
