Monthly Roundup โ†ช March ๐Ÿ“šโ›…

This month has been crazy tiring work wise and THEN I got sick and spent a bit of time in hospital, and as all chronic illness kids know, isย theย fun place to be.

I did manage to read a shit load more than I thought I would which is awesome!! I’m even past the half way point for my 40 book reading goal for the year!!!

Although my new mini goal is to try and read at least half of the books that I currently own before I head back to the UK for my masters in the fall.ย Which is actually a lot of books as well. So uh, that should prove to be an interesting challenge…

Ahh. The second month of the year. Also known as “the season of buying overpriced roses and buying discount chocolate”. Also, Chinese New Year!ย ๐Ÿˆท๏ธ๐ŸŠ๐ŸŠ๐Ÿˆธ

Didn’t finish my stack of short books again… But I was reading longer books too so I think that’s a good enough reason!!!!!!!! Maybe March will be the month I finish the stack and finally get to dive headfirst into my Unread section of my home library, as well as local library.

I also thought of doing a mid month book haul post, as I got a bunch of library books as -*well as bought a few second hand ones, but it’s now marchย so… it doesn’t…. feel like… there’s…. much……. point…………

Monthly Roundup โ†ช Jan โŒš๐Ÿ˜ซ

I reallyย really REALLYย underestimated how busy I would get working at the national paper as a photojournalist intern/temp… Working a 10 hour day is the norm and getting to come home at 6-7pm for dinner is a lucky break. And I’m not even doing early or late night shifts yet!!

It’s madness but I’m enjoying it so there’s that. I’ve also been able to shoot a few stories that are book related and I’ll eventually post them up here since they are what I’d call a “Local Love”. One is a restaurant and the other is an author!

Despite my hectic schedule I managed to read 4 of my short books from my January TBR post, which even though is not even close to what my goal was, I also read 2 books that were longer than 200 pages. So I guess it’s not all bad. I’m just going to transfer that TBR challenge to February and try and read more in-between travelling to jobs during the week.

OK BOOK TIME!

Also I’m in Singapore which means biblical thunderstorms and flash floods like 4/5 times a week. Which is really nice when you’re hiding indoors so you don’t get wet in what is warm rain that sometimes can feel like pee. “Winter” in the tropics of South East Asia is weird. We have snow themed ย decorations everywhere, yet we are either sweating like mad or hoping the torrential rain won’t delay the bus system.

Falling In Love With Hominids by Nalo Hopkinson [Review]

Falling in Love with Hominids presents over a dozen years of Hopkinsonโ€™s new, uncollected fiction, much of which has been unavailable in print. Her singular, vivid tales, which mix the modern with Afro-Carribean folklore, are occupied by creatures unpredictable and strange: chickens that breathe fire, adults who eat children, and spirits that haunt shopping malls.

Monthly Roundup โ†ช Nov โ˜”

This November I had quite a terrible first couple of weeks that involved having surgery and much bed-rest that made me very bored.ย And most of my friends that are in town are busy a lot of the time which leaves me feeling quite lonely. But thankfully my local library lets me take out something like 20-50 books, which isย RIDICULOUSย but I’m not complaining. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

It’s also now “Winter” time in Singapore which means, heavy and loud thunderstorms, which is also very ideal weather for staying in bed, under the covers, with a snack at my right hand and a book in my left.
